A recent publication co-authored by Matthew Rice, Year 3 SoCoBio DTP student at the University of Kent, reports the development of a fast and accessible method for evaluating how small molecules interact with cell membranes—a crucial factor in drug development. The study highlights the use of ¹H NMR spectroscopy to quantify key pharmacokinetic parameters.
The team introduced a 20-minute, high-throughput NMR assay that measures:
- Passive phospholipid membrane permeability
- Membrane adhesion
This technique provides a streamlined and label-free solution for assessing molecular transport in early-stage drug discovery.
