During his 3-month PIPS placement, Ryan developed a strong understanding of the core principles and practical skills required to run a successful project management enterprise. He gained first-hand experience in the day-to-day operations of a small business, including client engagement, financial planning, and public outreach.
Throughout the placement, Ryan worked with a diverse range of clients, each with unique project scopes and requirements. He was responsible for creating projected timelines, developing financial budgets, identifying additional project needs, and establishing milestone checkpoints to ensure progress remained on track. Clear and consistent communication with clients was a key part of his role, helping to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
This experience provided Ryan with valuable insights into the entrepreneurial process and equipped him with the foundational skills necessary to launch and manage his own business in the future. It also broadened his perspective on potential career paths beyond academia.
Ryan reported significant development in his planning and time management skills, which he believes will positively influence the way he approaches and conducts his research in the future.
