Rhianne Broadway
Host Organisation: Growing Kent and Medway
PIPS Project Title: Delivering Impact Reporting
During Rhianne’s time at GKM, she worked with the team to gather and collate data for the team to report back to the various institutions they are required to report to, including the government research reporting platform.
Rhianne has learned a lot not only about various research areas that were not her focus during her degree, but also how various funding can impact at a local level, including helping people with new businesses or to launch products they need financing for. This has helped her look beyond just the bigger picture, noting that small funded local projects are important too. Rhianne has learned how to use various platforms and reporting tools, including ResearchFish and various patent finders – including those from overseas.
She has found that she really enjoyed this avenue of work, including the massive variety of science and people she learned about, and seeing the outcomes of the research projects especially when it is something physical like a new product or robot.
The DTP was pleased to read in Rhianne’s reflections that she has significantly developed her knowledge of finances within research and how this translates to products and marketable technology or innovations on both a small and larger scale.
The host organisation provided some highly positive feedback about the “excellent” placement too, noting that “Rhianne was very happy working with the Growing Kent and Medway team and enjoyed both working on her own and actively engaging with the team as she needed. Rhianne was a great member of the team, listened well and was very able to question when tasks were not obvious.” They also felt that Rhianne’s “combination of scientific knowledge, listening skills and teamwork is rare”. Well done Rhianne!
