In July, two SoCoBio DTP students took the initiative to organise a cross-partner, cross-cohort social event, bringing together students from across the partnership in a relaxed and informal setting.
While students typically connect during structured DTP training events such as summer schools and the annual conference, this gathering offered a valuable opportunity to build relationships and share PhD experiences outside of the usual academic schedule.
The group met in London for a day that included a visit to the Natural History Museum followed by dinner. Sixteen students from three of the five DTP partner institutions attended. For some, it was their first time visiting the museum; for others, it was a nostalgic return to a childhood favourite. After exploring the exhibits, the group enjoyed a leisurely dinner and catch-up, strengthening connections across institutions and cohorts.
A big thank you to the students who organised this event — your initiative is greatly appreciated. We hope this inspires more student-led meetups in the future!
