Fourth Year SoCoBio student at the University of Southampton, Fardina Rahimi, presented at this year’s Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) PhD & Fellowship Symposium. It is held every year in RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey and many PhD students present their works which are plant and fruit based.
The title of her talk was Interspecies signals that control oviposition behaviour of the horticultural pest Drosophila suzukii (Spotted Wing Drosophila). Her talk was well received, and she was delighted to be offered to collaborate with one of the fellow researchers present on some work (spraying the strawberry field with beneficial bacteria to stop Drosophila suzukii infestation).
