SoCoBio Student Publication: Shubhangi Mahajan – Time to Eat Your Vegetables: The Role of Circadian Clocks in Insect Herbivory

Shubhangi Mahajan, a SoCoBio-funded DTP student, is pleased to share a recent publication related to her Ph.D.

This article is a review of how circadian clocks in insects and their plant hosts influence the timing and regulation of herbivory. It explores how daily rhythms in insect behaviour and physiology interact with rhythmic processes in plants, including plant metabolism and defence. The review also considers how understanding these temporal interactions could contribute to more effective and sustainable approaches to pest management.

Shubhangi’s contribution was as a co-author, with involvement in the writing of the original manuscript as well as reviewing and editing the final version. The topic is closely related to her SoCoBio PhD research, which investigates the role of circadian rhythms in the feeding behaviour and plant–insect interactions of the diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella).
